Kings, SCS Wheels and other mall crawling crap

( sorry) know this was not for me–but–I have same issue—- no RPMs when does it–throttle to floor and engine keeps running, but you all of a sudden go no where( mine is from stop signs turning right doing maybe 14 to 17 mph. ( I do not tromp- not going to) not how I drive. Had for 6 months, started doing it Sept– 6 times so far. Absolutely cannot duplicate it. Had 3 app with dealership to check codes–shows nothing they say. I ask 3 times for them to ck tranny fluid—setting there one time 3 hr 25 min. Have talked corp in Texas allot asking how to fix– she says never heard of it. Case means nothing if in accident!!

Keep in mind that our engines are only emulating atkinson cycle with VVT, more importantly they can switch between faux-atkinson cycle and regular otto cycle for when power is needed.

Ive had this happen to me turning left into traffic. Scared the tar out of me.

Now I use ECT or s-mode if I know its going to be tight.

Dealer after 3 times to get code readout–and say no codes thrown— on your own!!! Worthless. Would think warranty someone would try.

Took my mechanic–he drove several days–did not duplicate it ( other than few sec hesitating which I guess is normal on some) its dead in water thats worrysome. Got him to ck auto tranny fluid as I ask Dealership to do 3 times, was told ok— was 1/2 qt low!!!! Talked Texas again, they just say need a code thrown!!! No one cares. Looking on here, some do this even past 2 yrs at least—- guess not enough accidents or deaths yet.

Has anyone heard the term unintended acceleration. Toyota and other manufactures now program a throttle close if your foot is on the brake and you accelerate. This can occur more with left foot braking drivers who do not fully release brake pedal when accelerating from stop. Yes it is a scary situation if you are not ready for it to occur. If you want to test yours when safety allows do this: From a standing start release brake, accelerate, apply moderate brake pressure, and accelerate hard, rpms should fall abruptly. This is different from a stall test when vehicle is not moving and brake and accelerator are held and RPM climb to the stall speed of the torque converter. Hope this helps and you dont waste time at dealer for something that is normal.

I tried this few wks back to see if I could duplicate- did not do stall/ long hesitation- screen showing me what I was doing. I do not have foot on brake when leaving stop signs( 6 times). Its not normal). Loss power and you have to coast side of hwy.

There is a consistent thread here. So far 3 of us have had it happen while turning right from a stop sign.

Dealer was NO help…. I checked tranny fluid and guess what..?? I was 1 1/2 liters down…..

The truck will NOT do that anymore cuz I filled that sucker up..!!

My theory is when a hard right turn happens…. the fluid moves left and the tranny is starved for juice…. so it just craps out till the juice comes back to the pick-up in the pan..!!

You guys might want to check the fluid level..!!

Im not really sure what actually happened as I floored the truck and turned right..!! All I remember is that the truck did not react the way I wanted it to…..(ie: GO….)… Im sure it was not the Nanny non-slip shit and auto ABS braking..! Dont know if the RPMs went up… it all happened so fast..! I really was NOT sitting still… I was moving slowly and cranked her to the right and floored her..!!

I believe I had her in ECT mode at the time as well… should NOT be any of the built-in nanny shit going on..!

BUT filling her up with fluid seemed to fix the issue..!

Seems those of us unlucky ones to have issue-== its same, when lose power–NO RPM,s–like old carburetor when it was plugged and getting no gas—-fuel filter plugged. Just going along and nothing.( Did not hear even engine running, so doubtful RPMs were up–stepped to floor and nothing, quiet-But Master Warning lite has come on 4 of the 6 times. Except the Tacomas are right turn or left from a stop. Thinking throttle not communicating computer. My 2014 is perfect-. The constant shifting and tiny bit of hesitating I am used to now( 7 months) of owning, as I seen on here it apparently is a trait of 2017. From a stop it shifts 8-9 times till mellowing out. BUT—since I finally got someone to check my auto fluid – 2 days ago-( dealer guess does not know how) and was 1/2 qt. low—-now shifts only 4 5 times—am fingers crossed it cures problem. Thank you guys on here–for that—who would of thought? As tranny does not slip–so never would of thought. I do NOT belive its the anti skid— dry pavement every time, just right turns from stopping—had a 2010 did the antiskid so bad at 500 Mi. threw me in other lane-the lite came on—-could never get in it–scariest ever. Really sure this issue diff. Glad I tried 4th time to get it checked—.

I know this is an old post, but Im also looking for the answer to this problem. I have a 2004, fuel injected 3.4 liter V6. Same symptoms, I usually loose power up shifting, but it can occur anytime, randomly. No codes, dealer could not find anything wrong as well as a private garage failed to diagnose. Im thinking it is some kind of fuel issue but randomly replacing things can get expensive. Its very annoying and dangerous. It doesnt do it so much driving around town, but really noticeable and more frequent on long trips with the cruise control engaged. The RPMs drop and it will coast for about a second, loosing about 3-4 MPH causing the cruise control to accelerate to make up for the speed loss. I found by dumb luck that non-ethanol gas helps, but does not totally eliminate the problem. Id welcome any suggestions. Thanks.

Fuel pump relay? Or fuel pump itself maybe?

I always thought relays just failed but my wifes Acura had an issue with a relay sticking open or close. Replaced it and no problems so far

Well, I know now it is not the fuel pump relay. I swapped it with the tail light relay and it still exhibits the same behavior. Im also starting to think the ethanol free gas idea is a red herring.Its curious that this does not start right away when you are driving the truck. It may take 30 minutes or more before the behavior first appears, which explains why garage technicians never experience the problem because their test drive is about 5 minutes long, but when it starts it can be as frequent as every 5-10 seconds. Drives the cruise control and me crazy. Maybe it is something that is temperature sensitive. Gets hot and starts acting up. I guess the next thing to consider is the fuel pump. However, the prospect of removing the fuel tank or the truck bed is not appealing. I wish something would just break. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I had a dodge with a fuel pump problem but it was pretty consistent. Pressure would dive when I tried to get on it. Never got to the stutter stage but it was like it just lost all its power when the rpms came up.

I put a schrader fitting on a fitting right where it went into the injector pump (diesel) and hooked a pressure gauge up to it. Then I routed the gauge so it just temporarily sat on my windshield and I drove it around. I ended up replacing the fuel pump. Not sure if thats an option for you but itd tell you if the pump is the problem.

Id also expect youd throw a code if the fuel was cutting out, at a minimum a lean code. Speaking of have you cleaned your MAF lately? Might be worth doing.

Im going to do both of those suggestions before tackling the fuel pump. Im also suspicious of the fuel pressure regulator. If I can find it. Im guessing it is in the hardest to access place on the back of fuel rail.
